This is a fabulous llama with beautiful suri fiber. Suri fiber drapes on the llama. The structure of the fiber locks is different than the traditional llama fiber. I hope you enjoy the progression of this portrait.
I was hired to be the artist of the Buckeye and Great Lakes Llama Championship Show. I designed the logo and I am currently working on pastels that were awarded to the two best of show winners. In llama world, fiber has become a very important aspect of the llama show ring and breeding programs. Both of the portraits I am about to post show two different but equally incredible fiber. Both of these llamas still have more detailing to add but you get a good idea of where I am going with them. I hope you enjoy them.
I have one more portrait that is going out this week. Since it is still a Christmas gift, I can't post it yet. I hope you all have had a blessed and wonderful Christmas .

...I don't usually do black and white, but I do like how this turned out. The client wanted it to stay black and white like the original photo so I stayed with white, grey and back pastels.
This was an interesting combination. I did another version of it with just a head shot of both animals but it didn't work out. I think the fact that the contrast of the low neck of the quarter horse and the erect neck of the llama thru the portrait out of balance. I changed them to full subjects and it seemed to help with balance issue. This is one of those portraits that just doesn't seem to photograph well. I would say all portraits look better in person, but this really seems to be particularly true with this one. It was so much fun working on this portrait.
