This is my final post for the night. I am drawing as fast as I can as well as tying to keep up with the other parts of my life. I am getting close to the Dublin Art Show so I am trying to crank out new pieces for the show. This lion was easier than the other since the reference photo didn't have bars like they did in the other picture. I had to guess more in that one. I love to work from photos where there is not a lot of guess work. I hope you are enjoying the series from the zoo.
I am going to call this one finished :o) I think the black background was the right choice. The final touch was going around the edge of the face with white hairs highlighted by the black background.
I have been pretty busy this week and I am not making as much progress on the zoo animals as I had wished. The are coming along. On the first lion, I started placing some darker tones in the mane and coat but I have not blended them out yet. On the second lion, you can see that I have gotten past the blocking in stage but still lots of detail to add. I think these two would make a nice pairing together.
I haven't had much free time in the past two days but I have had some time to work on the last pieces and have blocked in the color for a third picture. I might keep these kind of loose and see how they look without the detail I normally put in a portrait. I will see if I can deal without the fine detail I prefer.
This has been fun to go back and forth between the two pictures. As soon as I get bored with one picture, I go to the other until I get bored with that piece and then switch back to the other. I have the colors that I want to use for my base before I put the final detail in.I see more purple in the color of the elephants than I did when I originally blocked in color.
