I will now post the final picture to make sure the owner is pleased with the portrait and I can still add changes if she wants me to.
I used the blending medium and I like it much better. I need to finish the dog portrait so I am going to call this it until I finished the dog portrait. The dog portrait is coming along nicely and goes home to it's new owner this weekend.
I am starting to enjoy this portrait. I haven't done oil for such a long time but I am getting back in the swing of it. I disagree with the salesman at Dick Blick and I still think you need a blending medium even with the water based oil. So back to Blicks I go for more paint, blending medium and a few more brushes . I need a few more blending and fine liner brushes so I can put his bangs back in the portrait.
This portrait is going to be for Ron. This is Rocotillo and he is a Chilean Imported llama. I am doing and an oil painting this time which is something I haven't done for a very long time. I am using water based oils but I am not sure I like the way it blends. This might be the only one I do out of these paints. I only have about an hour into the portrait, so there is a lot of time to put details in.
Posting the pictures is a great way for me to see things I don't see when I am looking at the portrait. I notice things I want to change on the bottom jowl and lip that I didn't see when I was looking at the portrait. I want to go back and add a little to the bottom left jowl and straighten out the bottom of the lip just a tad. I like the background color because I think it helps accentuate the eyes .
